Clark Family History

This project traces the ancestry of Conrad’s mother’s first husband, Harry Richard Clark II, who was born in 1905. Conrad and his brother Richard Clark have been working on this project on and off (mostly off) since 1983.  We’ve met Clark and Turnbaugh relatives, heard stories and copied pictures.  We’ve copied records at churches and found records at archives.  We’ve visited cemeteries and copied tombstone inscriptions.  And we can begin to write a family history, although it would be nice to have a good bit more information first.  So we could certainly use your help.

Harry Richard Clark II’s paternal line consists of (starting with his father): Harry Richard Clark I (b. 1877), Robert Clark (b. 1847), and Richard P. Clark (b. 1810).  We don’t know it any further back yet. The maternal lines are:

Lillie May Turnbaugh (b. 1879), wife of Harry R. Clark I and daughter of William Henry Turnbaugh (b. 1857) and Anna Maria Cochran (b. 1853).

Adeline Wittkopf (b. 1853), wife of Robert Clark and daughter of August Wittkopf (b. ~1821) and Eleanor Hellurg (b. ~ 1826).

Mary Slatter (or Slater, b. 1808) wife of Richard P. Clark; and we don’t know the names of her parents.

We’d like to know the names of the parents of Richard P. Clark.  We know the names of the parents of William Henry Turnbaugh, but we’d like to extend that line further back too.  August Wittkopf and Eleanor Hellurg were born in Germany, and we’d like to know more about their ancestry.  And Anna Maria Cochran’s parents were born in Ireland, and we’d like to know more about their ancestry.

You’ll find all we know on the family sheets, which are in (or soon will be in) Documents & Collections.  If you know more—we want to hear from you!  And we’re interested in learning of whatever material may exist relating to the lives of the people mentioned above.  This includes letters, records, pictures, stories, newspaper articles and anything else that might be useful.  Help us write the Clark family history!  Contact Conrad (cwterrill@comcast.net).
