TAKE NOTICE.
1. If any Creditor intends to oppose a Prisoner's discharge, notice of such intention must be given to the said Prisoner, in writing, three clear days before the day of hearing, exclusive of Sunday, and exclusive both of the day of giving such notice and of the said day of hearing.
2. But in the case of a Prisoner, whom his creditors have removed, by an order of the Court, from a gaol in or near London for hearing in the country, such notice of opposition will be sufficient if given one clear day before the day of hearing.
3. The petition and schedule will be produced by the proper Officer of the Court in London, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, between the hours of Ten and Four; and copies of the petition and schedule, or such part thereof as shall be required, will be provided by the proper Officer, according to the Act, 7 Geo. 4, c. 57, sec. 76.
N. B. Entrance to the Office in Portugal-Street, Lincoln's-Inn-Fields.
4. The duplicate of the petition and schedule, and all books, papers, and writings filed therewith, will be produced for inspection and examination by the Clerk of the Peace, Town Clerk, or other person with whom the same shall have been directed to be lodged for such purpose, at the Office of such Clerk of the Peace or other person ; and copies of the petition and schedule, or such part thereof as shall be required, will be there provided according to the Act, 7 Geo. 4, c. 57, sec. 77, or the Act, 5 Geo. 4, c. 61, sec. 11, as the case may be.

1828-11-29: The Lancaster Gazette, Sat., 29 Nov 1828, p. 3, col. 5:
INSOLVENT SESSION
A court was held on Friday the 21st inst. and three following days (Sunday excluded) at the Court House, at the Castle of Lancaster, before Thomas Barton Bowen, Esq. His Majesty's Commissioner for the Relief of Insolvent Debtors. There were 70 applicants, who presented their petitions to the Court, praying for relief, and discharge from gaol, under the Insolvent Debotrs Act, 26 of whom had previously received notice from their creditors, signifying their intention to oppose their discharge on the day of the hearing. The following cases were remanded, viz.

Bartholomew Menchine, late of Wrexham, in the county of Denbigh, was remanded for the period of two years, from the time of filing his petition, at the suit of some one or more of his creditore, for concealing his property, and diminishing the sum to be divided amongst them.—He was arrested in Liverpool, where he had taken his passage, and was on the eve of embarking on board a vessel, intending to decamp to Italy (his own country) taking with him a considerable sum of money, and leaving his English creditors to lament their folly in trusting an Italian.

Lancaster Insolvent Debtors' Court, Monday, Nov. 24th, 1828.
Omitted last week in consequence of a press of matter.}
On the 21st instant, T. B. Dowen, Esq. held a court at the Castle of Lancaster, for the purpose of investigating the cases of those insolvents who had applied for their discharge under the act of parliament. About 68 made such an application, 24 of whom had received notices from their creditors that their discharge would be opposed.---The following were remanded:

Bartholomew Menchine, an Italian, who formerly resided at Wrexham, and afterwards at Liverpool, straw-hat-manufacturer, was remanded for the period of two years, at the suit of some one or more of his creditors, for concealment of property with intent to defraud his creditors.

The Insolvent Debtors (England) Act 1813[1][2] (53 Geo. 3. c. 102) was an Act of Parliament passed by the United Kingdom Parliament in 1813, during the reign of King George III.
It was enacted in response to the demands on the prison system imposed by the numbers of those being incarcerated for debt, and some concern for their plight. The Act created a new Court for the Relief of Insolvent Debtors that remained in existence until 1861, under the jurisdiction of a newly appointed Commissioner. Those imprisoned for debt could apply to the court to be released, unless they were in trade or guilty of fraudulent or other dishonest behaviour, by reaching an agreement with their creditors that ensured a fair distribution of their present and future assets.[3]

1841-04-09: A "Giovanni Menchini" is mentioned on a Certificate of Arrival (nos. 478 to 485 all on one certificate) at the port of Dovor (Dover, England). The eight persons listed were all "figure makers," natives of Italy, and arrived from France on 9 Apr 1841. As listed, they were Giovanni Santi Pieri, Salvatore Gabrielli, Constantino Ricci, Bartolomeo Bastiani, Basilio Paganelli, Guiseppe Sar(k)i, Giovanni Menchini, and Adriano Gabrielli. The bearer of the certificate was Giovanni Santi Pieri.

1851-05-10: New York City ship passenger list: "Bartolone Minkins" (Bartolimo Menckini), age 50, male, plaster worker, from Sardinia (all on page were from Sardinia). Below his name is that of "Cuetini"? Menckini, age 15, female, plaster worker, from Sardinia. The indexer transcribed her name as Carline Minkins, female, age 13. The ship was the Radamisto, from Leghorn, Italy, which arrived in NY 10 May 1851.

1853-xx-xx: Immigration to U.S.: Per the 1855 New York state census, Bartolomew, Louisa, Zeppora, Joseph and William had been residents of NYC for two years. Per the 1900 U.S. Census, Rebecca (Amanda), Zeppora and William immigrated in 1853. So it appears that Louise, Flora, Rebecca, Zeppora, Joseph and William all immigrated in 1853. We think Bartholomew came in 1851. And John and George may have come before 1853. We cannot find an 1853 NYC ship passenger list record for them.

Rasmussen, originally published in the San Francisco Historic Record and Genealogical Bulletin, vol. 2:14 (Oct. 1964), pp. 9-11. The official records for the port of San Francisco of this era were destroyed by fire in 1940. Rasmussen attempted to reconstruct the missing lists from newspaper accounts and journals, (more info).

1860-11-16: From Thomas Hooker, an image copy of a posting of bond by Bartholomew Manchini to the people of the state of New York, for $4000, dated 16 Nov. 1860, binding himself and two others to faithfully administrate the estate of Louisa R. Manchini, deceased, late of the City of New York Newark N. J. [sic]. Bartholomew signed with his mark. Her estate was being probated in New York, even though she probably resided in Newark.
