1830-xx-xx: Siderina, age 11, moved with the family from England to Italy.
1853-xx-xx: Siderina, age 24, does not seem to have emigrated to the U.S. with the rest of the family about this year. She was probably married, with children, and living somewhere in Italy at this time.
1900-09-19b: Siderina, age 81, appears to be mentioned as Sadarani Vennucci, of Italy, in a list of the heirs of Rebecca Bull drawn up on 19 Sep 1900 by Zippora, the administratrix of Rebecca's estate.

1904-01-21b: Siderina, age 85, appears to have been still living, since George's 21 Jan 1904 obituary mentions that he had two sisters and a brother living. Flora was still living, but Angeline, Rebecca and Zippora had died by this time.

c1846-xx-xx: Son Charles Albert (Carlo Alberto)? Catalani was born. His parents were named on his marriage record, 27 Oct. 1874, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Newark, NJ.
1853-xx-xx: Angeline did not emigrate to the U.S. with the rest of the family about this year.
1870-xx-xx: Son Charles emigrated to the U.S., as indicated on his 1900 U.S. Census record. It has been passed down in the family that he had two maiden sisters whom he wanted to bring to the U.S., but who considered America "too barbaric," preferring to stay in Florence.
1900-09-19c: Angeline, as "Angelia," a deceased sister, is mentioned in a list of the heirs of Rebecca Bull drawn up on 19 Sep 1900 by Zippora, the administratrix of Rebecca's estate. Charles and Mary Catalan [sic] of Florence, Angelina's children, are mentioned as nephew and niece of Rebecca. Charles had actually been living in the U.S. for 30 years by then. It may be that Angeline's other daughter was also deceased by this time.

1830-xx-xx: John, age about 6, moved with the family from England to Italy.
1841-04-09: A "Giovanni Menchini" is mentioned on a Certificate of Arrival (nos. 478 to 485 all on one certificate) at the port of Dovor (Dover, England). The eight persons listed were all "figure makers," natives of Italy, and arrived from France on 9 Apr 1841. As listed, they were Giovanni Santi Pieri, Salvatore Gabrielli, Constantino Ricci, Bartolomeo Bastiani, Basilio Paganelli, Guiseppe Sar(k)i, Giovanni Menchini, and Adriano Gabrielli. The bearer of the certificate was Giovanni Santi Pieri.

{This could be John, age about 17, on a compagne to England.}
c1853-xx-xx: John, age about 29, immigrated to the U.S. around this time. Presumably, in a year or so, he and George sailed "around the Horn" to San Francisco, to seek fortune in the California Gold Rush. They either went with, or joined, John Asher Adams. In 1854, say, John would have been about 30, George about 26, and Asher about 22, so John could have been the leader of the venture.

DEATH OF GEORGE MENCHINE.
Well-Known Linguist and Foreign Guide at Capitol for Eighteen Years.
George Menchine, foreign guide in the U. S. Capitol, died Monday, at 4 p. m., in the seventy-fourth year of his age. Mr. Menchine was born in Wexum, Wales, in 1830, and had been for eighteen years employed at the Capitol. Mr. Menchine spoke fluently English, French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese, besides several dialect languages. He was well read in foreign literature, and had committed to memory Dante's "Divine Comedy" in the original. He was familiar with the leading Italian operas, and possessed in his younger days a fine tenor voice. As foreign guide, Mr. Menchine met a great many foreign notabililities who visited the Capitol. Mr. Menchine came to Washington in 1885. Previous to that time the larger portion of his life was spent in Newark, N. J., where he was for some years engaged in the millinery business. By reason of his linguistic attainments he was often called to act as interpreter before the courts of New Jersey. He was interpreter in the court presided over by Judge Bradley, afterward associate justice of the Supreme Court.
Mr. Menchine came to this country in 1848, accompanied by his fater and mother, four sisters and three brothers. In 1849, while the gold fever was at its height, he went to California, accompanied by two of his brothers. The "panning" of gold proved very successful, and a valuable property on Broad street, Newark, was purchased, and disposed of in 1870 for $85,000. This property covers nearly a square, and has built on it the largest department store in Newark. Mr. Menchine owned considerable real estate in Newark, but met with financial loss through unwise speculation in 1873. His two brothers, after returning from California, wnet back to Europe and engaged in the banking business in Florence. Mr. Menchine has two sisters and one brother living. Four children survive him, two daughters, Florence A. Menchine and Mrs. Grace Wallace, and two sons, Louis P. Menchine, who is engaged in business in this city, and Wm. G. Menchine, engaged in business in Baltimore.
Mr. Menchine's funeral will take place tomorrow in Newark, and he will be laid to rest in the family burying ground in "Roseville."

George Menchine, foreign guide at the United States Capitol, died Monday in the seventy-fourth year of his age. He was a fluent speaker of Portuguese, French, Spanish, Italian, English, and several dialect languages, and made many friends among the foreigners whom he showed around the Capitol.
Mr. Menchine was born in Wexam, Wales, in [1829]?, and came to this country in 1848 with his father's family. In the following year he went to California, and was successful in the search for gold. Returning to the East and settling in Newark, N. J., he bought some valuable property. Unwise speculation threw him back on his own resources once more and in 1885 he came to Washington. He held his position of guide at the Capitol for eighteen years.
Mr. Menchine's funeral will take place to-day in Newark. He is survived by four children—Florence A. Menchine, Mrs. Grace Wallace, Louis P. Menchine, and William G. Menchine. He has also two sisters and one brother living.

In 1849 he went to California, where he spent some time "panning" gold, which proved very successful. On his return East he purchased a valuable property on Broad street, Newark, and disposed of it in 1870 for $85,000. On this property was built the largest department store in Newark. Mr. Menchine also owned considerable real estate in Newark, but met with financial loss through unwise speculation in 1873, when he engaged in the millinery business. Veterans in the trade will remember him as a quiet, gentlemanly man, who was not a hard customer to sell to, for he knew what he wanted and was willing to pay the price, and could not be induced to take anything else."

She had a business at 220 Broad St. (she lived at 61 Bank, with Bartholemew & John) selling ladies' bonnets and making repairs. R. H. Bull had a business at 206 Broad, selling the same.}
