Blair/Hauch Family History

         Anna Sophia Blair (1878-1972)

This project traces the ancestry of Judy’s mother’s mother’s grandfather, Andrew Marshall Blair.  Judy got off to an excellent start in December 1971 when she went to visit her mother’s great-aunt, Anna Sophia Blair, daughter of Andrew Marshall Blair and Emma Magdalena (née Hauch).  Anna was the family historian, and at age 93 she was happy to hand off the responsibilities to Judy.  She let Judy borrow and copy her notes, which you can read yourself by clicking on the link below. Anna died within a year of Judy’s visit.  Judy regards her as a family history heroine.

We wrote a preliminary story on Andrew and Emma in preparation for visiting Ireland (Andrew was born and raised in Co. Antrim) in July of 2007, just to get a grip on what research was needed to go further:

The Emma Magdalena Hauch part of the above is outdated now since we have done much more work on her ancestral story since 2007 (see our Hauch/Jacquillard page).

At the Public Record Office for Northern Ireland (PRONI) that year we found the will of John Blair, Andrew's father, written in 1872.  John did not mention Andrew in his will since he had disinherited Andrew by this time:
