1859 Jun 13: "On the morning of the 13th instant, after a lingering illness of six years' duration, CHARLES A. HOUGH, in the 46th year of his age.
The deceased was well and widely known and esteemed for his many noble and endearing traits of character, and his death has left vacant a place in the circle of his family and friends that cannot be filled. "But their loss is his eternal gain, as he died in the full assurance of a blessed immortality in heaven."
"Yet our hallowed tears will unbidden flow,
To mourn the flowret that we cherished most;
But all is well; God's good design we see,
That where our treasures are our hearts will be."
The friends of the family are requested to attend the funeral, on this (Tuesday) afternoon at four o'clock, from the residence of John T. Sumwalt, No. 150 South Sharp street.

Her second husband was David Hartzell. Surviving children: John E. Hough, Pliny M. Hough, Mrs. John W. Swindell and Mrs. A. K. Hadel. Mrs. Hartzell was an active member of the Third Reformed Church. He was still alive on 8 May 1871, per another legal notice, on which he was the executor, Balto Sun, 8 May 1871, p. 2. A "Tribute of Respect" for him was published in the Balto Sun on 14 Mar 1878, p. 2, from the Officers and Clerks of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service in the 3rd District of Maryland. Wooddy was a Deputy Collector of this District. Copied to "Tribute-William_Wooddy-BaltoSun-14Mar1878-p2.jpg". He died 11 Mar. 1878 in the 49th year of his age. 1823 Mar: Isaac was leasing his house in Ellicott's Mills from Ellicott & Co. [a Balto. City deed records the transfer of property from Ellicott & Co. (sons of the founders) to another group of four, three of whom are Ellicotts (and probably grandsons of the founders). This deed also ascertains that Joseph Atkinson had been leasing both the oil mill and his dwelling house from them.]

6th of 6th month 1834 - "Elk Ridge Preparative informs that Isaac C. Atkinson is in the habit of drinking spiritous liquors to excess and wholly neglects the attendance of our meetings. Evan Thomas and Ezra Fell are appointed to Treat with him on account and report to next meeting."
11th of 7th month 1834 - "The committee to treat with Isaac C. Atkinson reported that they thought further labor with him would be unavailing -- they were continued to prepare a Testimony against him if they should see no cause to forbear and produce it to our next meeting."
8th of 8th month 1834 - "The committee to prepare a Testimony against Isaac C. Atkinson produced the following which being read and considered was directed to be Signed on behalf of the Meeting. The committee are continued to proceed as our discipline directs and report to our next meeting. viz.
"Isaac C. Atkinson a member of this meeting being in the practice of the intemperate use of spiritous Liquors + of wholly neglecting the attendance of our religious meetings and having been Treated with an account of these deviations from the good order established amongst us without the desired effect, we therefore Disown him from membership with us. Signed by direction and on behalf of the Monthly Meeting of Balt.o for the Western District held the 8th of 8th Month 1834." Jos Turner. Clk.

1865 Jun 21: News story: "Ancient coin--A Curiosity--We [the Sun] have been shown by Mr. Israel Silver Atkinson, of this city, a small silver coin made during the reign of Marcus Aurelius Antoninus, who was the 15th Emperor of Rome, beginning his reign in the year of 161, and continuing Emperor until his death, in the year 180. The coin has on the obverse a remarkably well-executed head of the Emperor, surrounded by the words "Antoninus Aug. Imp. XV.," and one or two other letters not perfectly legible. On the reverse is seen the Goddess of Justice, holding the balance in her right hand. In her left hand she holds something that may possibly be intended to represent the horn of plenty. Around this figure we find the letters MPVI VON or S, and several others not entirely perfect. This coin, now about 1700 years old, is probably the oldest Roman coin, in a good state of preservation, to be found in the hands of a private individual in the United States." Atkinson a member of this Meeting being in the practice of the intemperate use of spiritous liquors and of wholly neglecting the attenendance of our Religious Meetings, and having been treated with, on account of these deviations from the good order established amongst us, without the desired effect; we therefore disown him from membership with us.

1858 Aug 31: Death, "In Alexandria, Va., on the 22nd instant, MARY B. ATKinson, in the 61st year of her age, widow of the late Isaac Atkinson, of Baltimore. [BaltoSun, 31 Aug 1858, p. 2] {This could be a Mary Burson Atkinson who married an Isaac Atkinson in Balto. Co. on 22 Aug 1822.}
